Clique is co-organizing a Workshop on Social Media Visualization (SocMedVis) at the International AAAI Conference on Weblogs and Social Media (ICWSM'12) at Trinity College Dublin on 4th June 2012. It is a full day workshop. For more details see the website and the call for papers.

The Clique Research Cluster was featured in the Innovation Section of The Irish Times on Friday 28th October. In the interview, Clique director Prof. Pádraig Cunningham explained the motivation for network analytics, and how the group’s research is strongly influenced by the commercial challenges faced by its industry partners.

After an intense deliberation by the chairs of the sessions due to the high quality of the papers presented at the conference, the best paper award (comprising an iPad2 kindly sponsored by Metralab) was granted to Clique PhD student Mr Donal McGowan of University College Dublin, for his outstanding performance presenting the paper "Churn Prediction in Mobile Telecommunications".

The paper was jointly written with Clique's Industry Partners Idiro Technologies.

Welcome to Lorcan Coyle, a new member of the Clique research cluster.

Lorcan Coyle has joined Clique through an Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Fund Project from Lero-the Irish Software Engineering Research Centre in the University of Limerick. Prior to his time in UL he worked as a postdoc here in UCD (up on the third floor of CASL!) and prior to that he completed a PhD in Machine Learning in TCD in 2004.

Clique won 4 scientific awards at National and International Conferences in 2010. These included 2 best paper awards, 1 best short paper award and 1 second-best paper award.

Clique-related awards:

Bobo Nick joined the Clique team in UCD on 17th January 2011, collaborating as a visiting researcher for a six week stay. He is a PhD student from the University of Konstanz, working in the Algorithmics Group of Ulrik Brandes, Clique's external collaborator on visualisation. He is also a member of the Visone development team.

On January 20th 2011 the Clique SRC and Innovation Research Unit (IRU) will host the VACN workshop & Visualization Cook-off Competition in UCD CASL, Dublin. This workshop has invited international participation from five teams who develop leading software that supports graph visualization and analysis. The morning consists of presentations, and, in the afternoon, the teams will visualize a common graph data set which will be handed to them blindly on the day of competition.
